Mr. Prime Minister, What Were You Thinking?

The Honorable Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the sovereign state of Israel, publicly contradicted the President of the United States.

I’ll wait a moment and let that sink in.

The Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States assumed Israel would be agreeable to returning land when a number of Arab-Muslim nations attacked Israel in 1967 and were soundly defeated. Technically, Israel attacked first; Egypt, Syria, Jordan and I don’t remember just who else all prepared to destroy Israel totally. Those nations prepared their armies, stockpiled material and then, when they were ready to attack, Israel attacked outwardly and sent them all running like frightened dogs.

(Aside: The 1967 war occasioned many jokes, such as: “For sale, Russian tank with Egyptian markings. Gun not fired. Reverse gear burnt out.” Or the joke where a Syrian armored column spotted an Israeli scout on a hill top. When the scout ducked behind the hill, the column commander ordered a regiment to surround the hill and capture the Israeli. After several hours of intense fighting, a single Syrian soldier staggered back to report the event had been an ambush. There had been TWO Israelis… but I’m rambling again.)

However, all that aside, President Obama has decided the best way to bring peace to the Middle East is to reward the Arab-Muslim nations for their earlier attacks and incompetence. Here’s the plan: Israel gives back the land the others lost in their attack. That way, all the Arab-Muslim nations will be warmed to the cockles and decide Israel isn’t so bad after all. Peace will break out and every one will be happy. The “Palestinians” – who have had their own land for as long as Israel, 1947 or so – will then suddenly become a functioning country and industry will spring up. The Iranian controlled Hesbollah and Syrian controlled Hamas will stop randomly rocketing civilian targets in Israel and all will be happy.

But Prime Minister Netanyahu isn’t going along with this wonder plan of President Obama. The Honorable Mr. Netanyahu is prejudiced due to some sixty-three years of attacks by Arab-Muslim groups who simply want all Jews dead and the nation of Israel destroyed. The Honorable Mr. Netanyahu has lived in his life in a situation of being threatened with death simply by being Jewish and an Israeli. The Honorable Mr. Netanyahu doesn’t have the benefit of President Obama’s experience as a community organizer and Chicago machine politician. The Honorable Mr. Netanyahu seeks the preservation and prosperity of Israel over the Honorable Mr. Obama’s re-election, it seems. How parochial.

When those in the United States disagree with President Obama’s agenda, goals and ideas, those disagreeing are labelled ‘racists’. Logically, the Honorable Mr. Netanyahu will shortly be labelled a racist as well. After all, the only reason for not agreeing with President Obama is racial prejudice.

For those of us who are not politically correct, I suggest Psalm 122:

1 I was glad because they said to me, “We will go to the Lord’s temple.” 2 Our feet are standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is a city designed to accommodate an assembly. 4 The tribes go up there, the tribes of the Lord, where it is required that Israel give thanks to the name of the Lord. 5 Indeed, the leaders sit there on thrones and make legal decisions, on the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May those who love her prosper! 7 May there be peace inside your defenses, and prosperity inside your fortresses! 8 For the sake of my brothers and my neighbors I will say, “May there be peace in you!” 9 For the sake of the temple of the Lord our God I will pray for you to prosper.

It is in the best interests of the United States to maintain our cordial relationship with the state of Israel and the observant Jewish nation. Appeasement – in this case sucking up to Islamic bullies – has never worked as a peace measure in the history of the world.

Mr. Netanyahu, if this comes to your attention, I salute you. You are a leader of the type needed for the United States. If you are ever in Nebraska, look me up. I’ll have a beer, tea or lemonade for you. You – and your people and nation – have my prayers in any event.
